The Chinese painter AN KUN can be described as "a painter with a velvety brushstroke". In the case of AN KUN, however, it is a brushstroke with which he, although charming and refined, it unequivocally shares its social point of view with the viewer. With compassion and respect for his Chinese models, he strips each model of his or her Chinese identity.
And so the painter AN KUN shares with the viewer what he is concerned about. In his series PRETTY, BOURGEOIS FRIENDS (2010-2014) AN KUN portrays his ambitious Chinese friends, the Young Professionals. Remarkably enough, he does this mostly with a distinctly western appearance. With this transformation, AN KUN wants to feed the discussion about the increasing westernization of Chinese society.

The series consists partly of portraits; partly from full-length paintings, where the models are often placed in a metaphorical framework. Galerie Kunstbroeders presents the museum collection of works of art by this Chinese painter in its own gallery and at (inter) national fairs and exhibitions.
Various works by An Kun have now been included in private art collections in the Netherlands and France.
Exhibitions
Since its introduction in Europe, An Kun has had several exhibitions in, among others, the Museum of Zandvoort and during Salon Residence in the Singer Museum in Laren. He has also exhibited in Villa Friede in Bonn.
His works have also been exhibited in Spain, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Belgium and the Netherlands.
Many of his paintings are in corporate and private collections throughout Europe and the USA.
In "Soothing the Pandemic", An Kun painted the current Corona pandemic. With sleek red and white surfaces, he shows humans and animals in this series. The red color represents warmth, love and life and the white color is symbolic of death in China. With these paintings the artist shows his involvement in the current global pandemic.
